A Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) is a handheld device that combines computing, communication, and organisational features in a compact form factor, designed to assist individuals with personal and professional tasks.
PDAs gained popularity in the 1990s and early 2000s as handy tools for managing personal information and conducting basic computing tasks. However, their popularity declined with the advent of smartphones, which integrated similar functionalities along with cellular communication capabilities into a single device. Many of the features and capabilities pioneered by PDAs have been incorporated into modern smartphones, making them the preferred choice for personal organisation, communication, and mobile computing. They were, however, and important stepping stone in the development and adoption of smartphones.
