Mask URL

A masked URL refers to a web address (URL) that has been obscured or altered in some way to appear differently from its actual destination. This alteration is typically done to provide users with a more user-friendly or understandable link, or sometimes for security or tracking purposes.

There are various methods to mask URLs:

  1. URL Shortening: Services like bit.ly, TinyURL, or goo.gl take a long URL and create a shortened version that redirects to the original link. These shortened URLs are easier to share, but they mask the original destination.
  2. URL Cloaking: This technique involves presenting a different URL to users than the one they will actually be directed to. For instance, a website might display a link as “jack-marketing.com,” but when clicked, it redirects to a different site altogether. This method is often used in affiliate marketing to hide referral links.
  3. Frame Forwarding: In this method, the content of one website is placed within a frame on another site. While the URL in the browser may display the address of the main site, the content is actually coming from a different URL.
  4. Proxy Services: Some services act as intermediaries between users and websites, hiding the user’s IP address and allowing access to restricted content. These services might mask the original URL while providing access to the desired webpage.
