General Packet Radio Service – GPRS

Internet Glossary icon

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a mobile data service that enables the transmission of data packets over a cellular network. It is an enhancement of the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technology, designed to provide efficient packet-switched data transmission for mobile devices, allowing faster and more cost-effective data transfer compared to traditional circuit-switched services. It was regarded as Generation 2.5, so it is now almost completely defunct.
