In computing, the term “flame” refers to an aggressive, hostile, or inflammatory message, comment, image or post typically directed towards an individual, group, or entity in online discussions, forums, social media, or emails. A flame is characterised by its disrespectful, confrontational, or deliberately provocative nature, often intended to incite conflict, anger, or a heated argument.

Flaming behaviour can deteriorate online discourse and lead to unnecessary conflicts or tensions. In healthy online environments, fostering respectful communication and constructive dialogue is encouraged, while inflammatory or hostile behaviour like flaming is discouraged or moderated to maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
