Early Majority

Marketing glossary icon

Early Majority refers to the pragmatic group of customers who adopt a product or technology after it has been proven by early adopters but before it reaches full mainstream acceptance. They represent about 34% of the adoption curve (per Everett Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovations theory) and are critical for scaling a product’s success.

Key Traits:

  1. Practical – Wait for proof of reliability and value (e.g., buying a smartphone only after reviews confirm its durability).
  2. Social Proof-Driven – Rely on recommendations from early adopters or trusted sources.
  3. Risk-Averse – Prefer established solutions over untested innovations.
